Faith is our foundation. Having faith in Jesus Christ means relying completely on Him—trusting in His power, compassion, and love. Faith means believing in all He does and knowing that faith in Him is the only path to our salvation.
There are countless stories of Faith in the Old Testament- Queen Esther risking her life to save her people; Jonah praying to God from inside the belly of the whale; and Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. In each of these stories, the characters faced challenges and used their faith in God to overcome them.
The symbol of the fish, also known as the Ichthys (the Greek word for “fish”), is an important symbol of faith in Christianity. Ichthys is an abbreviation for “Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter”, which translates to “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.” The symbolism of fish is used throughout Scripture. Jesus fed thousands with only a few fish, and Jesus told the disciples to cast their fishing nets after catching nothing and, when they did, they caught a heavy load of fish. Jesus also called his Apostles “fishers of men” (Mark 1:17 ESV). Even today, the fish symbol stays an iconic representation of our Christian faith and is a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice and His desire for all of us to be “fishers of men.”

Hope Anchor Symbol & Meaning:

"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." - Hebrews 6:19 “Hope is called the anchor of the soul because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a ‘wish’ (I wish that such-and-such would take place); rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made.” -RC Sproul |
As Christians, hope for God’s promise and what is to come is our anchor. We can look forward with confidence in God’s promise of eternal life through our faith, and we can find stability in that confidence. Without hope in God’s promise, the weights and challenges of this world can be overwhelming.
One story of hope in the Bible is Abraham and Sarah. God called Abraham to leave his home and travel to Canaan where God promised to “…make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). Years later, Abraham and Sarah were still childless. But God fulfilled his promise to Abraham and Sarah, blessing them with a son, Isaac. Abraham’s hope did not waiver even though it seemed hopeless. Not only had years passed since God made his promise, but Abraham was ninety-nine years old. Abraham trusted in God to fulfill his promise, no matter how impossible it seemed.
It is hope in the certainty of God’s promises that serves as our anchor.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 “For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” – 1 Corinthians 15: 21-22 |
John 3:16 sums up the greatest story of God’s love- God sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us as a human, die on the cross for our sins, and triumph over death through His Resurrection. We had done nothing to deserve God’s forgiveness. Forgiveness was only possible through God’s love for us, which is never more evident than in Him sending His only Son to take the burden of our punishment. Because of God’s gift, we now have hope and eternity in Heaven though our belief in Christ.
God is a great and loving Father, who shows his love for us repeatedly throughout the Bible. He created us in His image and fulfills all His promises. Scripture even says that “God is Love” (1 John 4:8). Nothing will change God’s love for us, no matter what we have done or what we will do. As C.S. Lewis says, "The great thing to remember is that though our feelings come and go God's love for us does not.” Rest assured in God’s love and the forgiveness that is possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Courage Tree with Roots Symbol & Meaning:

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:6-7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:7-9 |
Life can be unpredictable with daily stresses and challenges weighing us down. While we have faith in God’s plan for us, it takes courage and strength to preserve. The Bible is full of stories of characters whose courage allowed them to overcome the challenges they faced. Stories such as Daniel, who was thrown in the Lion’s Den for praying to God, and Noah, who was chosen by God to build an ark to survive the flood that would destroy everything else in the world. The easiest option for Daniel and Noah would have been to give up. But they remained steadfast and strong in their faith, demonstrating their courage, and overcoming their trials.
Roots provide trees with the nutrients to survive and the strength to support growth. The deeper the roots, the stronger the tree. In the same way, the deeper our roots are in Christ, the stronger our courage is to persevere through our trials. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
